(Want to just jump into the game? Just drag the raridoom point 8.wad file onto zdoom.exe and start blasting!)

Story and notes:

Hey Rarity! Im so glad youre reading this, because that means youre coming to rescue us!! By the time you read this, though, well probably be in cocoons or already changed or something, but hopefully you can come and rescue us in time before we turn into big, mean, goo-shooting changelings! Changeling Pie just doesnt sound as good, does it?
So, in case you didnt know, weve been captured by the changelings. They have Sweetie Belle, too. I guess they thought she was you because the Changeling Queen was saying something about having all the elements to herself and how now nopony would be able to stop her, and then she laughed. Not like a good, happy laugh; more like an angry, evil laugh. Shes a bit of a big meanie so I hope you get here soon!
Theres a lot of dark magic here that kindof interferes with what the magic you usually do, so dont even try teleportation or levitation magic. Twilight tried and she threw up, and I know you hate it when that happens. But there are some attack spells that do work! Your simple spark works, and when Twilight was getting dragged she threw out some scrolls with other spells shed figured out (boy, she is so smart, isnt she?) so hopefully you can find some of those soon, cause some of these changelings wear tough armor! Shes actually saving up some magic to send this to you right now, so I hope you get it, because shes going to be siiiick for a while afterwards! She also said not to worry about mana, since there are natural mana pods spread out everywhere. They're not tasty, though. Just saying.
The daisies here are good to eat, and I saw some tulips and roses around, too. Theyre really tasty, even if they are a little rare. Ha! Because your name is Rarity? Thats funny. I also dropped a few cupcakes totally on accident, so if you find one, go ahead and eat it! You wont regret it! Also, I saw some shed exoskeletons--isnt that such a fun word to say?--and I bet you could totally use them for armor or something.
I bet youll want to know about the different Changelings there are here, and since I was taken on a special guided tour, I can tell you all about them! Though they really should have done something about the accommodations. Being slimed up and dragged through the cavern isnt nearly as fun as taking a hot air balloon ride or something.
Your basic changeling wears no armor, and its pretty weak. A couple simple sparks should take it out. These are the guys we took out together in Canterlot! Sorry you have to do it alone now!
The ones in green armor are a bit stronger than a basic changeling. I dont know what that means in changeling society, and I wonder if they have parties for being promoted like that?
The ones with red armor can shoot goo at you! Watch out for them.
The yellow ones cant range attack, but they are waaay fast. Scary fast! And they fly like little bumblebees!
There might be more, but I forgot. I'm sure you'll meet them soon enough, though.
I thought I saw Lyra in here, too, so if you can find her, maybe she can help. Or maybe shes just a really powerful changeling disguised as Lyra because having to attack one of your friends is one of the most terriblest, most terrifying thing that they can ever think of! Wouldn't that be something?
Oh, and you might have to fight the Changeling Queen to get us out of here.
    Good luck, Rarity!

This is raridoom v.8! It might need a little polish, but the game is complete and fully playable.

I had fun making this, but the important part is that you have fun playing it. So if you like it, hate it, have suggestions, think a level just isn't fair or fun, or find a bug I missed, email me at bahatumay@gmail.com

There are a few files in this download. The important ones are the .wad files. Raridoom point 8.wad is Where All the Data is, like images and sounds and music and weapons and their definitions. This is the file to edit if you feel like trying your hand at modding. The changelingpack.wad is a wad that replaces DooM enemies with changelings. The decorations haven't all been replaced, but the enemies have, so if you want to see some changelings in another wad, this is the way to do it. chex.wad is the iwad (source files) you need to run this mod.

fmodex.dll gives you audio, so leave that one alone. The autoexec.cng file is some parameters to set up the game the way I like to play it. If you delete it, you'll have to manually set the jump and crouch functions (some levels require these to win) and you'll lose the crosshair, the ability to use cheats other than the Chex Quest cheats (I like cheats, too), and the funny comments Rarity will make if you type the names of ponies in the console (brought up with the ~ button). zdoom.pk3 is a compressed file with definitions to let zdoom (the game engine itself) run. CQ3 readme is for the Chex Quest mod. Licenses comes with the zdoom executable.

Now to play! Just drag "raridoom point 8.wad" onto zdoom, and it'll start on its own. If you just open zdoom, you'll start Chex Quest, which is actually a pretty cool game, too.

Default movement is with the arrow keys, but feel free to change this. Shoot with Ctrl, strafe with period and comma (or hold alt while pressing an arrow; but if you hit control alt arrow your screen gets flipped, so don't do that), run with shift (caps lock to lock running), spacebar to open doors and activate switches, and A zooms your simple spark. Although vanilla (normal) Doom doesn't allow for jumps or crouches, ZDoom (the engine I used) does, so I added it. The default keys are Z and X, respectively (remember that for the juice box on the ledge in E1M4, and any time there is slime).

Doom is famous for secrets, and I love secrets. I've marked many of them with slime or lights on the walls, but some I haven't. Happy hunting! I'll even give you your first one: In the original Doom II, you can get the chainsaw in the first level by walking backwards first instead of forwards. Try that in E1M1.

That's about it. Have fun and kick some changeling flank!

Unfortunately, Raridoom Custom Edition does not work with this version. I must have changed some important definitions trying to pare down the mod's size, and I'm not quite skilled enough to figure out what I broke.

The version of zdoom that comes in this pack is outdated (in fact, zdoom itself is no longer being developed). I'm packaging this one because it's what Chex Quest came with so I know it works, but this mod should work as expected on any zdoom-related port.

Why did I choose Rarity as the main character? Well, why not? She's not my favorite (I HATE drawing that mane...) but she just seemed to fit.

I used Doom Builder II and Slade3 for editing the wad itself, along with Inkscape for spriting and GIMP for color and text. These are all free programs, so if you get the urge to start making things of your own, you definitely should! What can I say? I like ponies and I like DooM, and putting them together can be nothing but profit.

Speaking of profit... Not like anyone would pay for this game or anything, but I have to say that this material is not for sale and can only be distributed over teh interwebz. This game falls under derivative fan works, just for kicks and giggles. Want more legalese? It's all in the licenses folder.

Hold on to your hooves--it's gonna be a fun ride.
